Would the minimum # of drives to do this be 4, as one would think?

I couldn't remember if the array controllers striped in a mirror set with more than a single drive being mirrored... this is good to know, as I'll be setting up our Exchange server, and 0+1 would be nice to have, but I've only got 4 drives to use for the database array (and 2 more for a RAID 1 for the transaction logs).

I am building a Raid 0+1 (72Gb) array with 8 x 18gb drives.

Can you tell me if the drives are mirrored then striped or stripped and then mirrored.

Thanks

Richard

They are just mirrored - period... The controller automatically stripes a mirrored set if there are enough drives in it (and 8 is plenty). There is no specific setting to choose.
