We have a strange problem with our EVA5000. We have many Disk losses every week, for no reason. Maybe it is the EMU ? or the Enclosure ?. Does anyone have a answer ?

Best Regards

Mark

Has HP explained what's happening? Did they suggest replacing the entire EVA if it is still under waranty/support? What VCS firmware do you have? And have you asked HP to check the individual disks's firmware? I recall there was a batch that had the bad firmware that often cause problems.

Hi John,

I checked the logs, and all you can see is that there is a time out.
Harddisk Firmware is HP05
EMU Firmware is 03000080

If the temp drops or rises by 5 Dergrees then you can be sure that a HDD will fale, but all Temp's are OK, not even Critical.

This is a crazy problem.
We have 136 disks, and within 6 Months 16 failed, every time the temperatur in the room changes a little.

Rgds

Mark

Mark,

Is the timeout your getting on an EMU ? we had a similar problem where we were getting timeouts on an EMU and it turned out to be media errors on a harddrive, which we have since replaced. As our consultant said.. Its not easy to Diagnose the eva 5000.. Talk to your consultant or HP and get the logs to them so they can make some sense of them.

By the way are u losing disks from 1 shelf or all shelves ??

regards

John

Your first step should be to log a storage support request with HP and let the storage support team analyze the controller logs.

You did'nt mention what version of VCS you are running or what size drives you have.

Is there an environmental problem in the room? How much is the tempature fluctuating in the room? Does the EVA have enough air clearence in front and back?

HP05 is the latest drive firmware.

Different disk drive models have different firmware revisions. For example, VCS 3.025 requires at least HP09 for 'BD14656ABC'.

I agree that it is necessary to work with HP support on this case.
