Try Dragomirs way, becouse you cannot use Bostjan way - sa221 not support expansion/extension RAID/volume.
regards,
Andrzej

I have a compaq smart array 221 with two disk RAID1. This RAID has 9 Gb and now I want to install a new RAID (36 Gb) with 2 new disk. I have installed the RAID, but I can´t boot from it after clone with Ghost (don´t shows message disk boot failure or similar, only stop boot). If I boot with configuration CD I can´t see anything to change about boot, because I think that the problem is that smart array wants to boot from RAID A (9 Gb) and no from RAID B (36 Gb).
Than

I now that 221 has limited funkcionality (don't know/forgot)..If it supports raid expansion, than remove one 9 gb disk, insert one 36, wait for the restore to finish, remove the other 9gb, insert the new one and (if possible) either extend volumes or just make a nev volume with the new available space....

BR
B.

PS: yes you are right he wants to boot from the same drive positions (arrays)

Hi Roberto

This is how i fixed a similar problem.

The 221 always want to boot from Array A.

What you should do is this.

1. Remove all disks from the server.

2. Clear configuration on the controller.

3. Insert the new 36 GB Array in the server in the slots where the old Array A was located.

4. Power up the server. When the controller asks if it should update the configuration, answer Yes.

Tada! Now your 36 GB Array become Array A, and it should boot nicely from it.

Keep in mind that if it fails, you allways got the 9 Gb array intact and can do a rollback with that.

Regards
Dragomir Zekic
