EVA5000 array with HSV110 controllers.

We have one of the above that we would like to configure via the "UART" port on the rear of the HSV110 controllers.
Can anyone supply us with the pinouts of this port (or the cable number required), & also the baud rate?
Also, any links to config documentation via this port would very much appreciated.

The UART port is not used for configuration. Is only used for HP certified support personnel for troubleshooting.

I used once only to display the "output" of command sended through the "field service" special page of the Command View. The commands are not documented anywhere and mostly are exadecimal numbers that represents actions to be executed.

If you want to configure/manage the EVA using CLI commands, you can use SSSU. Install the platform kit for your O.S.

As Ivan states, and I concurrrr... the 9pin Serial connection is for HP Field/Technical Support and diagnostics only.

You can "watch" your EVA "boot up" if you have the proper cable and hyperterm or really any term program that works with serial ports.

I had to connect once to "fix" an EVA's boot process as it came from the factory in debug mode. I don't remember the settings, but I think I had used a serial cable from a SAN Switch (B Series).

I advise against even bothering/trying to see the port unless your instructed to via Tech Services.

Agreed, be _very_ careful - if you plug in the connector and this causes the receiver to beleive you have sent some control character this might result in the reboot of one or both controllers or even a hard stop of the entire array!

What is the problem? You do not have a Management Server? Command View EVA? SSSU?

Wondering what makes you think about using UART port?

As said by everyone here , it it used by HP support or a user only when instructed by HP.

For EVA configuration , you don't need to use this port at all. YOu can use CommandView EVA installed on the SMS server.

For you information ,as far as the connecting to the UART port is concerned, a null modem cable could be used.
You can user HyperTerminal or an equivalent terminal emulator with following settings
Baud Rate - 19.2K
Data Bits - 8
Parity - None
Stop Bits - 1
Flow Control - None

This equipment came to us on consignment, as just an EVA5000 system cabinet.
I can see that we will have to sort out a management server, Command View EVA, & SSSU, etc.

All you need is a Windows Server with an HBA. Hopefully you were give SAN Switches and some HBA's as well.

Once you have the server, and it could be anything that will work with an hba, you then ONLY need Command View EVA 4.1. SSSU is not a necessity, but if you like command line and command batch programming, then you might want it.

You might need to have the EVA's firmware upgraded as well.

Meant that it is not necessary to actually config the EVA if you have CV-EVA. Capture config... yes, indeed it is needed as well as has other useful functionality.

I also jumped to the conclusion that the environment was Windows based without actually asking...

So what it is? Windows, Linux? HP-UX? SUN? other? mixed?

At the moment we just want to test it as a box, without assigning it to a specific system. We will look round to see what equipment we have available, & then decide what h/w to use.
Regarding CV EVA, is there one s/w package that covers all types of management server, or are there different flavours? Where can we get CV EVA?
I like a CLI myself, but the main concern is to configure/ test the box in the simplest way possible.
Is there one doc that explains full installation, what f/w, s/w rev levels required?
Your help is much appreciated.

CV-EVA is Windows only Based.

SSSU is multi OS capable I think. I believe it is free as well. CLick here and select the OS... grab SSSU.

However, SSSU only works "through" a server running CV-EVA. You have to point the box running SSSU at a management appliance or other server running CV-EVA before you can even start to talk to the EVA5000. Use the "SELECT MANAGER" command in SSSU to do this.

Steven, sorry for the delay, but I got side tracked today.
Can you tell me if CV EVA requires a minimum version of Windows? (ie Windows 2000 server, Windows 2003 Advanced?).
Is there a recommended list of FC HBA's?
We have a 1GBit Compaq switch that we can use, & possibly a 2GBit. Can you tell me the minimum f/w version required?
None of the above came with the EVA array.

I'm am now going off-line until next week, but I'm sure that I will have further questions as we progress with the project.

Once you determine all the hardware you have that you can use, we can figure out which firmwares need to be updated or not. Without knowing what hardware your going to use, there are too many different variations.

1GB SAN Switches should work and should be up to 3.2.0 at the VERY minimum.

1GB HBA's should work too.

2GB stuff would be nice to have.

Hi Steven,
We're getting some basic equipment together:
DL380 with 1GByte memory, 1GBit switch etc.
We can get hold of CV EVA no problem.
Can you tell me if it's possible to do any configuration work on the EVA, WITHOUT an LTU, or is one required for any work.

It's a "paper license".
That means CV-EVA software will technically work without it.
