Hi,

I have an Smart Array 5300 controller installed in an DL360 First Generation server which is equiped with two 1.13 Ghz CPUs.

After rebooting the server the controller was no longer displayed in POST and Windows no longer lists the 5300 as an installed device.

Instead, a general PCI device is listed and cannot be installed, the PCI info display by SCU is:

PCI Bus Number . . . . . . . . 3
Device Number . . . . . . . . . 6
Function Number . . . . . . . . 00h
Slot Number . . . . . . . . . . 2
Vendor ID . . . . . . . . . . . 0E11h
Device ID . . . . . . . . . . .
Did you try re-flashing the BIOS? But it does sound like it needs to be replaced.

Thanks for your reply.

I reflashed it some days before, but rebooted the server several times without any problems.

With replaced you mean the card, not the bios as this isn't replacable as far as I can tell, correct?

Oh wait, do you mean trying to re-flash after it failed? Yes, but the online flash tells my that no flashable device is installed?

If there any way to force the flash application to flash the bios to that PCI device or does flashing rely on some active, working BIOS components of the card itself?

Yes, I meant after it failed. And you found out that the card in at fault when the flash utility does not find the devices signiture out there. I would say the card has failed and should be replaced.

Final update: After a power cycle the card seamed to be working again, I used the latest online Firmware update to flash the controller which completed with no error.

After two more power cycles the card disappeared again.

Seems like the card is just broken, replacement has been ordered.

Thanks for your help!
