XCS and VCS are not available as downloads. You need to get them directly from HP.

Do not think so!
It should be accessible for everybody.
If you go up the tree you will find the readme where it says:

SOFTWARE LIBRARY AREA

Welcome to the Hewlett-Packard Software Library (softlib)directory.

This directory on ftp.hp.com contains software (drivers, bios, firmware, patches, etc) for select HP products.

The software on this ftp server is best accessed via

HP's web site: www.hp.com

The location of specific software on this ftp server may change frequently in correlation with software revisions.

to have these products updated.

Regarding the disk firmware,
Do you still require a controller resync
prior to the update ?

(use to be done from fieldservice for drivefw_off_3028.sss)

I am not sure, but reading the XCS5.031 update SW guide does not say so!

I talked to an expert of HP service.
He says it is still required, but he has never done it!!
Reason: Diskfirmware updates are always done with VCS or XCS upgrades. During a VCS or XCS upgrade you will always do a resynch and therefor do not need another one for the disk FW update!
