Smart-2/DH hangs system on boot

I have a Smart-2/DH which has been running perfectly OK 24x7 for 2 months since I salvaged it from a project that was shut down. I installed Windows 2000 Service Pack 2 and when the system came back up from the restart at the end of the upgrade the smart-2/DH hung with this console message:

1706 - Extended BIOS data area memory has been corrupted.
Array controller interrupt 13h BIOS cannot continue.

The boot stops here.

If boot with the drive array powered off, Windows 2000 Server comes up
OK, but there is of course no drive array visible to Windows.

The ACU tells me that the drive array is not configured. I configure it,
save the new configuration, and reboot, with the drive array turned on.

I get the same result. I power off the array, reboot, run ACU again, and
I find that the array is not configured.

The controller seems to be unable to remember a configuration.

Is there any simple way to fix this, or do I just have a dead smart-2/DH?

I have a couple of suggestions: First, lets make sure the 2DH has the latest firmware by applying SP16371 from http://www.compaq.com/support/files/server/us/download/10258.html. You will only the disk 1 of 4 for the Smart 2DH controller. Once that is complete, then update the W2K driver for the 2DH using CP000766 from http://www.compaq.com/support/files/server/us/download/10125.html. The only catch is that if W2K won't see the controller, you won't be able to update the driver.

If the above suggestions don't work, my suggestion is to replace the Smart 2DH controller.
