      <title>Faulty RAID Array Disk Contents</title>

      <description>Greetings!&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;I've just had a disk go bad on my RAID 5 Array on a Proliant. The online spare kicked in fine and the replacement drive has arrived from HP. My problem is that HP want the faulty disk back and I'm worried about customer confidentiality issues as we have copies of confidential systema on our server. Is there any way to either see what is on the disk OR low level format before returning?&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Thanks in advance for pointers (or redirection to a more appropriate forum).&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Regards&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Andrew</description>

      <description>Andrew:&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;If you have another "spare" server you can play around with, you can try to slip the drive into that box and configure an array with the drive with a RAID0 logical unit.  Then you can run a utility on the drive to perform a wipe/sweep/whateveryouwanttocallit of the drive.  Then send the drive to HP.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Steven</description>

      <description>Thanks Steven&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Funnily I have 6 slots and only 4 used so I put the old disk into slot 5 and added a RAID 0 Array as array B. When it came time to save the config I bottled it as I was frightened of messing up the existing array. Sounds as though I would have been OK?</description>

      <description>You should be ok.  The array information would be written to the 5th drive where the old array would not be touched since you did not make any changes to it.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Steven</description>
