hp storage problem

hi
my problem is when i use Smart Array (Ver 7.51) CD to configure the disks this message came up:
(ACU did not detect any supported controllers in your system).
My server is ML 350 G4p and my storage is (HP StorageWorks 20 Modular Smart Array) P/N is: 335921-B21, contain 10 disks 250GB each.

How is your MSA20 connected to the server? What controller are you using?

And do you mean that you are using the SmartStart 7.51 CD?

if you planning to use ACU use latest smart start, however check firstly if ACU support your controller

first of all thank full for your helpping

but, my problem still does't solved.
I was download the smart array ver 7.70 and i was boot with it, but still the same message came again (ACU did not detect any supported controllers in your system)
abut your quistion:-
i am using SCSI cable to connect between the server and the enclousure.

so please replay me as soon as possible

Hi,

You need to fit a supported Smart Array controller as suggested earlier.

Please see the supported models in the MSA20 Quickspec document.

Wait a second...

You stated that you are using 250 Gb disks and a MSA20...

There is no 250 GB SCSI disks, and the MSA20 is a SATA diskshelf. So my conclusion is that youre using SATA drives and a SATA controller.

Not all SATA controllers are supported by SmartStart...

If so, during the post you should be able to go in to the bios of the controller and create a raid and a logical volume. then you should boot on the OS-CD.

In other words, dont use SmartStart, do it manually.

Have you fitted a supported controller to the server? If so, which one?

ACU supports the controllers in the quickspec provided earlier.

The HP StorageWorks Modular Smart Array 20 is supported by my server:

My server is HP ProLiant ML350 G4, and it's supported by this controller.

The controller have 10 disks: HP 250GB 1.5G SATA 7.2K 3.5" HDD.

The Operating System is: Windows server 2003 Standard Edition.

Hi,

You appear to have missed the point of the previous posts...

The MSA20 is essentially just a shelf which contains disks.

It needs to be connected to the SCSI port of a sixth-generation Smart Array controller installed in your server, for example a Smart Array 6402.

If you have do have a Smart Array controller installed in your server, then you have a problem, but it sounds like you don't...

The controller is alrady fitted in the enclousure and it connected to my server through SCSI cable.?!
Wher can i found the serial No or product No for controller.:)

That is not correct. The MSA20 includes a SmartArray controller. One of the problems is that it requires another, supported SmartArray controller in the server to be manageable by ACU.

Oops. Sorry my mistake there. I was getting confused with the MSA30, which is just a shelf, IIRC.

amirzkria: Can you confirm what interface the MSA20 is connected to in the ML350 G4p...

...but what sort of card is that specifically ?

Take a look at the Quickspecs here:

and then scroll down to the External Storage section.

You'll see that an MSA20 must be connected to a Smart Array 6402 or 6404.

I suspect you're actually trying to connect it to either the embedded SCSI controller - connected via an internal-to-external cable, or a PCI SCSI card.

The interface or the sort of connection is via internal-to-external cable,
which mean thier is cable from the main board in SCSI CH1,CH2 to the tow raiser SCSI Connector, and then from it to the MSA20 through SCSI cable.

You only need one card.

The choice you make will depend on whether you're planning to expand things further...

The 6402 has 2 channels, the 6404 has 4 channels.

If you're not planning any major expansion of the storage then you'll be fine with the 6402.
