Not sure about your current status, but if you insert a new disk, the array will check the block size and should begin to format to 520k blocks. For a 36GB disk this needs about 30 min. Do not remove the disk during this time!

During this process, armdsp will show this
(depends on CV version):

DISK AT JA1/D14:
Drive State: FormattingUnformatted
Vendor ID: HP 36.4G
Product ID: ST336605FC
Product Revision: HP09
Capacity: 34304 MB
Loop Address: 29
Node WWN: 0x2000000c50ac2exx
Initialization State:
Volume Set Serial No: 00000000100596xx
Block Size: 512

or

DISK AT JA1/D1:
Drive State: Formatting
Vendor ID: HP 73.4G
Product ID: ST373453FC
Product Revision: HP05
Capacity: 69632 MB
Loop Address: 16
Node WWN: 0x2000000c5071ccxx
Initialization State:
Volume Set Serial No: 0000000000000000
Block Size: 512

dear all,
i've got a va7410 problem before,see:http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=1148111.
last night, i try to replace the M/D13, but it seems the array could not include the new disk, and i could read once(i tried to pull and push the disk serveral times) that the new disk's block size is 512 blocks, which the others is 520 blocks. i run armmgr -f on command, but nothing happened, and i could not read the new disk's infomation in armdsp -a output anymore. the new disk's firmware is HP05, could this be a factor? how to format a new added disk?

high points will be assign.
thanks a lot

stephen

hi,
the new disk firmware version is HP05, which is higher than the old disk's firmware version: HP01, would this make it unusable?

thanks

Hi

I don't think an old firmware makes the disk unusable. But you can easily upgrade to make sure, if you want.

Did you try

armcfg -D M/D13 -a Arrayname

to include the disk?

Rgds
Oliver

dear all,
i know i could use armcfg -D to include a disk to an array, but, would it work if i could not read the disk information from armdsp -a? when i push in the new disk, it seems that the array could not find the new disk, would armcfg -D work then?

thanks a lot
