We have a Proliant 6400 with Smart Array 4200 that has just failed following a long period of reported errors.

Can you please tell me the procedure if any of replacing the faulty controller without losing the RAID configuration on the system?

Where is the RAID configuration stored? Is it possible to safeguard the RAID configuration in the evnt of controller failures such as this?

The Config is stored in the Server BIOS, on the Controller and on the Disks.
So you can change 1 Part without Problems.
I have do it many times and never a had a Problem.

But having a recent backup is always a good thing.
Having an Umbrella and it does not Rain.
