Thanks for interest, but my question was about making connections. Is making connection is compulsory or it will be enough just make LUN and define ACL.

Hi,
I am configuring MSA 1000 throught CLI prompt.
First of all I have made LUN's and then I defined connections for each host, and in the end ACL's are defined. I have little ambiguity what is purpose of defining these connections and is connection defination is compulsory or not. Please through light on it.

Aamir,

The purpose for setting the ACL is to control access to the LUNs. You do not want multiple HOST (servers) accessing the same LUNs.

jk
When the MSA1000 controller detects a server, it will automatically create a connection, which describes the path from the servers Fibre Channel adapter to the MSA controller port. But that is not enough:

- you *MUST* set the correct operating system profile (e.g. Windows, Linux,...) on a connection. This is required for proper low-level FC/SCSI communication between the MSA/server and is independent from whether you use an ACL or not.

- give the connection a nice name
