topic How to boot RAID logical disk in Disk Enclosures

I have an rp7410 and hp-ux 11i v3. I have a DS2300 in split mode and an A5856A raid card.
#1 I can't get the RAID card working at all - where are the irm tools I keep reading about? a fresh install of the OS does not include these tools. Also, the device shows up as "unknown". Are the drivers not installed? The manual seems to say the drivers are included in this OS. I only have the one HP box... Do I need to use Ignite-UX somehow? Docs are fuzzy on this and if so, that seems highly unreasonable.
#2 How do I get the OS installed and bootable from a logical disk?

Any ideas?

Thanks

This is an old raid controller and it is NOT supported in 11iV3. It is not supported in 11iv2 either.
> The manual seems to say the drivers are included in this OS.
Which manual? which OS version?

Take a look at
http://docs.hp.com/en/9551/IOcards_PA_IPF0308.htm

The replacement for the 4si is the A7143A but it is also discontinued. These are PCI-only interface. The newer A9890A (2port) and A9891A (4port) are much faster, they are PCI-X interface. I think the A9890A AKA SA6402 (2 SCSI bus) is more appropriate for the DS2300 split bus that you have. Unless you plan on getting another DS2300. Ideally you set up mirrored pairs one disk from each pair to each SCSI bus. You can setup raid5 too but the more than one disks will be on the same bus. Take a look at this document and click on "Smart Array".
http://docs.hp.com/en/netcom.html
Also on http://docs.hp.com/en/SM_SA3/SA_Support_Matrix.htm
None of them mention that they support the DS2300 enclosure but theoretically it should work but don't take my word for it.
