is that very long time (5 hours) when initializing array disk RAID 5 on MSA 2012sa?

hi,

is this still going ? this is a long time for initialization - reconstruction can take many hours depending on the size but usually initialization should be less than an hour.

I depends. How many drives are you using in the R5 group and what type (SAS/SATA) and size are they?

RAID 5 with 8 x 146GB SAS Drive Into 1 Volume. Use MSA 2012sa DC

This is a ~1TB LUN. The time looks normal to a little high. Is there other i/o activity on the array form other LUNs? This can delay the new LUN creation significally. There is a setting in the management software to change the "modification priority" of the LUN so that the array allocates more resources to the LUN building. This will take away i/o resources from other LUNs but if you do this during the quiet hours there should be no impact.
