topic MSA30 As a standard Drive controller in Disk Enclosures

Hello,

I am trying to make my standard MSA30 Storageworks drive enclosure act as a standard drive enclosure. Has anyone done this, or known of this being done?

What I'm basically trying to do, is instead of having the enclosure act as a RAID controller. I'm trying to get it to just recognize the drives individually.

Now from my understanding the MSA30 is not inherintly a RAID controller, it requires the Smart Start RAID configuration to be functional as a RAID controller.

Again, If anyone has seen or heard of this being done and know a direction to lead me, it would be much appreciated.

The MSA 30 can be used together with a smartarray controller as a hardware RAID

OR

connected to a "normal" SCSI HBA as "normal" and individual disks.

You have a choice of a single, dual bus I/O module or a MI (multi initiator) module then.

Thanks for the response.

After stepping back for a second. We did realize that the RAID controller was the cholk point. Will try the standard SCSI controller in the morning.

Thanks.

Are you using a smart RAID controller? If so you need to configure the Smart RAID controller before the OS will see any of the disks (or LUNs) on the MSA.
