I am weighing the question of which configuration is more efficient yet produces respectable performance. I have a Proliant DL380 G4 with two external chassis attached via an SA6402 controller. Each chassis has (14)146GB SCSI drives. I guess the question is "Should I configure both chassis as a single array/logical drive or as two separate arrays/ logical drives. It will be configured as a single drive letter in the OS (W2K3).

Also, the Smart Array 6400 has a 2 TB limit per logical drive, so you will need to create at least two logical units anyway.

For performance reasons (using both SCSI channels) one possibility is to create 2 RAIDs with 7 disks from each enclosure each.
