here is the ioscan, I took out a lot of the stuff so it would not clutter up this. But 0/5 path is the Fiber adapter and as you can see the HP-UX server does not even see the array controller. In the past it did but only the controller. I have tried so many different things that I can't even get it to recognize the controller anymore.

0/5 ba Local PCI-X Bus Adapter (783)
0/5/1/0 fc HP Tachyon XL2 Fibre Channel Mass Storage Adapter
0/5/1/0.8 fcp FCP Protocol Adapter
0/5/1/0.8.0.255.0 ext_bus FCP Device Interface
0/5/1/0.8.0.255.0.1 target
0/5/1/0.8.0.255.0.1.0 ctl HP MSA CONTROLLER

I have a MSA 1000 storage array controller with dual controllers connected via fiber to two HP-UX servers. Connected to this are two MSA30's with 14 disks in each enclosure. My question is I cannot get the Lun's I have created through the CLI to show up in ioscan. I can see the disks connected via Hyper terminal, and created 1 unit(LUN) with 7 disks. I have created an acl for the unit and set the preferred path. Does anyone have any idea why they are not showing in ioscan. I would like to be able to see all the 7 disks.

There are two things not clear on your question.

1) by ACL you mean you have configured selective storage presentation to allow the HBA on that server to access that LUN?

2) The MSA serves LUNs, not physical disks. If you have created a RAID of 7 disks, and one LUN out of it, the server will see one LUN, not 7 disks.

Do you have a SAN switch in between the MSA and the HP-UX servers? If you do, you probably need to zone in the HP-UX servers.

Can the MSA see the HP-UX boxes? Is that what you mean with create ACL/set preferred path?
YOu need to set the selective storage presentation on the LUNs to allow the HP-UX machines to see the new LUNs (think that's what it's called anyway).

I am not very experienced with HP-UX so can't really tell you what you have to do in there to get it to refresh the list.

It would be helpful if you could send a show units and show disks. That might help us decipher your problem.

You have 7 disks of enclosure 2 in a RAID 5. This is what the server will see, a 406 GB LUN.

The servers do not see the physical disks, only the LUNs. And if you enable SSP, you must specifically allow access to that server to that LUN.

Can you post what you see on ioscan?

here is the ioscan, I took out a lot of the stuff so it would not clutter up this. But 0/5 path is the Fiber adapter and as you can see the HP-UX server does not even see the array controller. In the past it did but only the controller. I have tried so many different things that I can't even get it to recognize the controller anymore.

0/5 ba Local PCI-X Bus Adapter (783)
0/5/1/0 fc HP Tachyon XL2 Fibre Channel Mass Storage Adapter
0/5/1/0.8 fcp FCP Protocol Adapter
0/5/1/0.8.0.255.0 ext_bus FCP Device Interface
0/5/1/0.8.0.255.0.1 target
0/5/1/0.8.0.255.0.1.0 ctl HP MSA CONTROLLER

Hi,

Your "show connections" indicates that the connections to the HP-UX box are offline...

What's the physical connection from the server to the MSA ?

Are you using the built in SAN switch(es) in the MSA1000 or an external SAN switch ?

As mentioned earlier in the thread, have those SAN switches been zoned to allow the server to see the MSA ?

Cheers,

Rob

Thanks for the quick response, the MSA1000 controller has 2 fiber cards in the back connected directly to two fiber cards in two different HP-UX serves. How can I turn the cards from offline to online, is there a setting in the MSA1000 controller or can I use fcmsutil? If so how, if you know the commands.
