I will be adding a fully populated 14disk disk-shelf to a MSA1000 that has two controllers running active/active with Linux RH5 and Oracle on top of that. Could someone point me to documentation on how I can add the disk-shelf properly. I can't seem to find anything on HP

The MSA1000 base enclosure has room for 14 disks. Then on the back it has two connectors to add two MSA30 with up to 14 disks each.

See: http://forums11.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=656039

if you are adding one shelf, check if it has a dual or single port I/O module since a dual port one will split the bus so you will need two cables in order to see all your disks. A single port card will allow two shelves to be connected, one bus each. I prefer one shelf two busses and split mirrors accross the left and right bus. ;)
