We have an XP12000... we've a full blown External Storage/XP License. We are running CommandView/XP 2.2B. On the CLI -- we cannot:

- display CHiP Ports used as External Storage

CLI 30001 (R/W> list port -l

- allocate LUNs using LDEVs on External Storage

CLI 30001 (R/W)> create lun 1G:2G,100,2e,10
(where 2e:10 is an external storage LDEV)

So it seems - we cannot do certain automations using CLI on External Storage/XP.

Is this supposed to be the case?

TIA.

Hi Alzhy,

A little history is required to answer this.

When HP first started marketing the XP array, they created there own array management software package called "Command View XP", complete with a CLI. This progressed up to version 2.2B, when HP stopped developing the Command View XP product. This was about the time of the XP1024 series (i.e. pre External Storage). Command View XP is sunsetting, so it won't be supported at all soon.

You now either buy Command View XP "Advanced Edition" which is prebadged "Device Manager" software from Hitachi or the Remote Web Console (RWC), which is free. The main benefits are when using Cmd View XP AE is for tiered storage, provisioning, or managing multiple arrays. Cmd View AE also has a CLI.

OK, why is this history important? The CLI on Command View XP is unaware of the External Storage feature on newer arrays, so you cannot use the CLI for that. If you are a real CLI guru and want that feature, you would have to migrate to Cmd View XP AE. It will cost money, however. Also the CLI between Command View XP and Cmd View AE are not compatable, however there are some migration tools.

Hope this answers your question,

Curt
