The MSA1000 does allow adding a disk to an existing drive array with restriping and you later can then expand the existing logical disk, but the restriping can take quite some time.
Recent versions of OpenVMS allow a volume expansion, but it depends on the existing size of the BITMAP file. You might have to mount the volume privately for a short time.

Hello,
We have an MSA1000 which is currently configured as follows:-

$1$DGA2: 9gb shadow set
$1$DGA1: RAID 5 - Total 109Gb (4 x 36.4Gb)
$1$DGA100: 9gb shadow set
$1$DGA200: RAID 5 - Total 145Gb (5 x 36.4Gb)
$1$DGA300: RAID 5 - Total 145Gb (5 x 36.4Gb)

We are looking to increase the DGA200 and DGA300 up to about 300Gb each

Whats the best way to do this ? possibly using existing disks. We have about 10 free slots for disks.

Do you need capacity or performance?
If capacity, just put in 4x 300GB disk drives and create two mirrors.
Then migrate the data with BACKUP/IMAGE.

well performance is important yes
we run an oracle database here with the data and index tables split between the DGA200 and DGA300 volumes.

On another point is it simple enough as a temp measure to increase the DGA200: volume size by simply adding another 36.4Gb disk to the RAID5 set? eg would this give us 145 + 36.4 = 181.4Gb available space?
