Hi Khurram,

If you are talking about Storage Mirroring software of HP which is OEM of Double Take company. This software works over LAN monitors any changes to the critical
data and sends the changes to the target server. By replicating only the file changes rather than copying an entire file.

Mirroring is for server to server replication. Snapshots and restore functionality is also available with this software.

Where as if you talk about CA in terms with EVA then it replicates the data from one storage array to another over fibre channel. And this is done at block level not at file level.

Hi,

Storage Works Mirroring is a Software based file system volume replication solution which makes replication over network using TCP/IP.

Continuous Access feature which is builted in storage Controllers and it is a Storage based replication which uses a FC or FCIP to replicated the Storage Volumes irrespective of file system.

Short answer is StorageWorks Mirroring is host based replication for Windows environments and CA is array based replication that is operating system agnostic.

By the way what are advantages of Block level replication we get over file level replication? except speed.

When using storage mirroring software - the hosts are requried to monitor and copy data. Whereas in case of CA , EVA itself will manage the monitoring & copying of data without involvement of the host
