Changing RAID type on Model 10 Disk Array

Looking for suggestions on steps to take to change raid type on a model 10 disk array.

Do you need to unbind the physical units then rebind them ?
what pre steps would need to be taken.

The scenario is we have three logical volumes on a volume group vg01 (two of which are /usr & /opt) , we wish to change via grid manager the raid type from 5 to 0 for the disks in the array.
We have enough disk space on another volume group to retain a copy of the two noted volume groups and can restore data for the third logical volume.

Norman,

If you are talking about the FC10 or the SC10, neither are RAID devices. They are JBOD (Just a Bunch Of Disks).

Do you have any more information on your disk array?

I think you're talking about Nike Mode 10 disk array (thus unbind and bind process) ?

I would first move /usr and /opt to another VG and mount them. Once system is running fine with /usr and /opt in its new VG you would need to remove the 3 lvols and vg01 completely.

Next in Grid Manager, you then unbind those disks and re-bind them to the RAID level you wanted.

The unit is a HP High Availability Disk Array Model 10 (A3231A)
2 physical disk units are defined
unit 0 has 5 disk modules bound to it (raid 5)
unit 1 has 3 disk modules bound to it (raid 0)

There is no way to do this online.

You need to unbind the lun and rebind..
on the rebind the disk is more or less formatted.
There are some keywhacks in gridmgr that could transfer raid online, but is not recommended or supported (not that the nike 10 is anyway) but not worth doing for your data's sake.

Make a backup and restore.

After all it's a model 10, there can't be all that much to backup on those 2G drives!
