Thanks a stack - thread closed.

Wierd that I could not find that thread - I searched long and hard for this - I normally post as a last resort.

Perhaps there was a problem with the search on the forums?
DS2405 - disks sizes all wrong.

Hi all,

Another strange one. DS2405 connected single path (JBOD) to RP5670 server. We lost a drive in the server and replaced with a spare on site (HPPN: A6194â 60001) and although ioscan picked it up and all was well, we could not pvcreate the disk. There were no errors on HPUX until I ran STM. Here is the wierd bit - the block size is 520 bytes vs the 512 bytes for ALL the other drives.

SCSI describe of /dev/rdsk/c4t5d0:
vendor: HP 73.4G
product id: ST373307FC
type: direct access
size: 140000000 Kbytes
bytes per sector: 520

The STM error and describes is attached.

Now. Bad drive right? Thus we ordered another 3 x A6194A drives. Same problem? Oh yes - No matter what slot we use, etc. we have shutdown, we have switched off we have tried everything - INCLUDING replacing the DS2405 chassis and BCC's.

ioscan - the new drives are at the end - ALL DRIVES IN THE ARRAY have the same FW - HP03.... note that there is ONE different Seagate PN - so thats not it either.

disk 5 0/2/1/0.8.0.255.0.0.0 sdisk CLAIMED DEVICE HP 73.4GST373307FC
/dev/dsk/c4t0d0 /dev/rdsk/c4t0d0
disk 6 0/2/1/0.8.0.255.0.1.0 sdisk CLAIMED DEVICE HP 73.4GST373307FC
/dev/dsk/c4t1d0 /dev/rdsk/c4t1d0
disk 7 0/2/1/0.8.0.255.0.2.0 sdisk CLAIMED DEVICE HP 73.4GST373307FC
/dev/dsk/c4t2d0 /dev/rdsk/c4t2d0
disk 8 0/2/1/0.8.0.255.0.3.0 sdisk CLAIMED DEVICE HP 73.4GST373307FC
/dev/dsk/c4t3d0 /dev/rdsk/c4t3d0
disk 9 0/2/1/0.8.0.255.0.4.0 sdisk CLAIMED DEVICE HP 73.4GST373307FC
/dev/dsk/c4t4d0 /dev/rdsk/c4t4d0
disk 10 0/2/1/0.8.0.255.0.5.0 sdisk CLAIMED DEVICE HP 73.4GST373307FC
/dev/dsk/c4t5d0 /dev/rdsk/c4t5d0
disk 11 0/2/1/0.8.0.255.0.6.0 sdisk CLAIMED DEVICE HP 73.4GST373307FC
/dev/dsk/c4t6d0 /dev/rdsk/c4t6d0
disk 19 0/2/1/0.8.0.255.0.12.0 sdisk CLAIMED DEVICE HP 73.4GST373307FC
/dev/dsk/c4t12d0 /dev/rdsk/c4t12d0
disk 16 0/2/1/0.8.0.255.0.13.0 sdisk CLAIMED DEVICE HP 73.4GST373307FC
/dev/dsk/c4t13d0 /dev/rdsk/c4t13d0
disk 13 0/2/1/0.8.0.255.0.14.0 sdisk CLAIMED DEVICE HP 73.4GST373405FC
/dev/dsk/c4t14d0 /dev/rdsk/c4t14d0

Diskinfo for ALL the new drives:

SCSI describe of /dev/rdsk/c4t12d0:
vendor: HP 73.4G
product id: ST373307FC
type: direct access
size: 140000000 Kbytes
bytes per sector: 520

SCSI describe of /dev/rdsk/c4t13d0:
vendor: HP 73.4G
product id: ST373307FC
type: direct access
size: 140000000 Kbytes
bytes per sector: 520

SCSI describe of /dev/rdsk/c4t14d0:
vendor: HP 73.4G
product id: ST373405FC
type: direct access
size: 140000000 Kbytes
bytes per sector: 520

And two randomy chosen original disks:

SCSI describe of /dev/rdsk/c4t6d0:
vendor: HP 73.4G
product id: ST373307FC
type: direct access
size: 71687369 Kbytes
bytes per sector: 512

SCSI describe of /dev/rdsk/c4t2d0:
vendor: HP 73.4G
product id: ST373307FC
type: direct access
size: 71687369 Kbytes
bytes per sector: 512

Ideas would be appreciated, I am all out. See the other post for instructions on how to sort it...

HTH

Duncan
