Hi,

I have a EVA8000 connected to a HPUX.
I need to create a 5TB disc, but in the View Command I can only create discs of maximo 2TB.

Are you update on storage management software?? Is there enough space on EVA?

Hi,
According to specs of EVA8K, only 2TB vdisk is possbile.

You may create multiple 2TB vdisk and put them in same VG from hp-ux. Also check the hp-ux release notes for max file system size and file size.

Hi Herrera,

The maximum size of a vidisk in any EVA family product is 2TB. Infact You cant create evan 2TB but it is 1GB less than 2TB.

Is there anyway to make recognize in the equipment a 5TB disc? Perhaps updating the Coammand View?

No, it's a SCSI limit (2^32 blocks of 512 byte each).

Only upto 2TB is supported. No workarounds known to me.

When I create a LUN in commmand view, I can see in space available RAID0 2GB, RAID1 2GB, RAID 5GB.

As I can verify the total space available in RAID0, RAID 1 and RAID5?

The formular for displaying the available capacity for creation of _a single_ virtual disk is: MIN (2TB, available_space)

even if more raw capacity for _other_ virtual disks are available.

I don't recall it is visible anywhere. You need to take the raw capacity and calculate the avaliable space yourself, I am afraid.

I generally use the below formula to calculate the disk requirements in EVA.

DiskCount= ((UsableV0 * 538) + (UsableV5 * 673) + (UsableV1 * 1076))/(DiskCap * 476) + (ProtLevel * 2)

Adjust the UsableVx to reach the diskcount below your actual.

Note: From CV-EVA when you choose the create vdisk, then it shows the disk groups and space left in that disk group for each vraid.

Ah yes, I recognize those formula from the EVA V1 days.

If I remember correctly, you need to specify the disk capacity in HWGB,
the Vdisk capacity in SWGB and there is a secret 10% add-on.

You must be running a rather old version of Command View.
I am running 3.3 and am really seeing the proper available capacities for the various RAID levels (See attached jpg)

These values show the total availabel space. Even if you see 5TB the max LUN size stays at 2TB due to the mentioned SCSI limit.

Also also stated above the usual way on HP-UX is using LVM and building volumes with multiple LUNs. So you could go and select 5 LUNs with 1TB each and present a volume of 5TB to your application.

A very good side effect is, that you can grow your volume by adding LUNs at any time!
