HP-UX 11i not seeing EVA disks

Hopefully a simple question.

I zoned an rp4440 running 11i to an EVA6000. There are a number of LUN's presented to the server now but ioscan and insf do not create the necessary disk files. HP-UX can see the EVA devices. Any ideas?

FYI: here's the detailed sequence.
1) install latest quality pack, hw bundle and several patches as pre-req's for SecurePath
2) reboot
3) attach fibre cables to san switches, zone eva and rp4440
4) reboot
5) create luns on EVA and assign to rp4440
6) ioscan
7) insf -e
...
No disks. Check with ioscan -f|grep HSV:
0/4/2/0.97.4.19.0.0.0 ctl HP HSV200
0/4/2/0.97.4.19.0.1.0 ctl HP
When you added the hpux host to the eva, are you sure you set the OS to HPUX?

Ususally you do not see all these HSV200 device files. If the OS is set to 'HPUX' and the ports have the correct WWNs configured for the HPUX HBAs (port WWN) I would reboot the HPUX server.

It seems to have discovered the EVA using the wrong addressing mode.

Good point but I did set the host type to "Hewlett Packard HP-UX" when I created the host. Is there anything else I could check? It may be a missing driver or something but I have no idea where to look.

Thanks in advance.

And you verified that the WWNs listed for the host in the EVA are correct?

Have you rebooted the HPUX server after configuring it into the eva?

With secure path the drivers should be listed as HSX not ctl.
While I agree with Torsten, I fear that you are right... Everything looks OK but I never did reboot the server once the EVA could see it for the first time.

Oh well, there go the SLA's!

Thanks chaps.

You need to reboot your HP-UX server for it to see the first lun(s) presented from an EVA system. Subsequent presentations will no longer require a reboot.

This has been true since EVA5K and I believe this is still true for EVA 4/6/8K...

Try to reboot and see if your LUNS are seen..
Thank you for your time, effort and input. I'll schedule the outage (in 1-3 weeks) and see where I go from there. I have every expectation that after this last reboot it'll all be hunky-dory.

FYI: somehow the server got a reboot on Friday night and naturally all the luns appeared. If in doubt, reboot.

Thanks to all for the feedback.
