      <description>Hi,&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;I post a message asking documents on xp256. Since no many response it, I'd like to post it again.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;The only online document I can find is under docs.hp.com/ha. I just don't believe that is all I can have. there got be something else out there to tell me more about xp256, as for how to configure different RAID, and what is device type of OPEN-K/3/8/9 etc, etc... Those concepts, architecture, configuration... &lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;I have strong background on NIKE array model 20/30/60. However, after I read "HP Surestore Disk Array XP Operating System Configuration Guide", I still don't get it what is xp256. &lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Please help me out. &lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Roger &lt;BR /&gt;</description>

      <description>Roger,&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;All the information on the architectures of XP256/512/48 are normally restricted to HP internal users only. If you are a HP employee, you can find a lot of this kind of information at &lt;A href="http://hpsu.rose.hp.com." target="_blank"&gt;http://hpsu.rose.hp.com.&lt;/A&gt; HP Education used to offer trainings for customers, but I cannot find that course now. There is a white paper from HDS (&lt;A href="http://www.hds.com/pdf/9900ArchGuide.pdf)" target="_blank"&gt;http://www.hds.com/pdf/9900ArchGuide.pdf)&lt;/A&gt; which talks about the internal architectures of HDS 9900 series array as well as HDS 7700E (on hardware level, HDS 9960=XP512, HDS 99910=XP48, HDS 7700E=XP256).&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;For the emulation type, all that you need to know is that it gives you a virtual hard disk drive (it is called a volume) from the array. You determine the size of virtual disk drive by selecting an emulation type (OPEN-k,3,8,9,etc), and give it an internal address by assigning a CU:LDEV pair to that virtual disk drive. When you want to connect a host to that disk drive, you need to map the volume to a port and give it an external address (target ID and Lun number) so that the host can see that virtual hard drive (you also need to set the correct host mode for that port, e.g. 08 for HP-UX, 00 for Windows, etc, as well as correct fibre channel topology). Because the virtual hard disk drive consists of slices from 4 phyiscal drives (Raid 5) or 2 physical drives (Raid 1), it has been protected for data integrity.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;There are only two RAID levels supported in XP256, RAID 1 (1D+1M) and RAID 5(3D+1P). Keep in mind that all the Array Groups connecting to the same ACP Pair must be defined  as the same Raid level.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;There are rules determining whether a HBA, switch, Operating System, etc are supported by XP. Consult a HP representative for that information.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Hope this helps.</description>
