Two years ago I had the same error trying to configure spanned raid1 in cluster enviroment. The workaround was to load non-cluster version of netraid firmware create spanned raid1 and load cluster version of firmware again.
Few weeks ago I create spanned array1 in cluster enviroment without any problems. (I do not recall version of firmware in this two cases.) I think the same situation is for spanned raid5. So, newer version of clustered firmware could solve your problem. If not use the same workaround.

Could you privide a little more detail about your configuration?
What Netserver, what Netraid, NT4 or windows 2000?
How is your shared storage configured? (how many disks, how are the other logical drives configured)
What??s the firmware of the Netraid?
What happens if you try to create a non-spanned RAID5?
Or a spanned RAID1 (RAID10)?

Marco.
