Hi:

I have a question: I can use a HP StorageWorks M5314C FC Drive Enclosure - storage enclosure Without a EVA? Like a SAN?

Manage it from own site, if it have a own system?

I can connect to an FC SAN SWCH 2/8 Part # 322120-B21 from there to connect to my LAN and shared HARD DISk Like a SAN?

What you want to have is probably a DS2405 or DS2500 (supported for HP-UX as a FC connected disk enclosure, but no longer sold), but the you probably need to go with something like a P2000 (MSA) or P6000 (EVA) disk array.

From a technical point of view, this is expected to work. You can install optical SFP in one of the IO modules and attach it to a SAN switch. The copper cable could also work in an older SAN switch. Not sure about that. I expect that the port on the Brocade switch will come up as a L-Port with as many device behind it as disk drives installed. Is this a good idea? Probability not, since there is no RAID protection or access control around. You need to be careful with zoning and involve some kind of software RAID/LVM. Don't attach the 2nd IO module, since multi-pathing will only work with a deep knowledge of what you're doing.

To wrap up, this is really nothing for production, but sounds like a lot of fun for someone with enough spare time. :)

Regards,
Sebastian

In a normal configuration the EVA controller manage the disk enclosure (e.g. the addressing, the EMU, the cut through switch, etc). Without the functionality of the HSV controller you cannot control these things (e.g. addressing, bypass, un-bypass, etc).

Somebody already tested this without luck:

http://h30499.www3.hp.com/t5/System-Administration/Connecting-a-EVA-disk-array-directly-to-RP4440/m-p/5629959/highlight/true#M479846

"...
