This is because sometimes the downgrade process requires the array to be initialized. It CAN be downgraded... but you effectively wipe your config and data and need to restore from a backup.

EVA 4400 XCS upgrade

Hi,

I have an EVA 4400 that I would like to add additional storage to (12 x AJ872B 600GB 15k HDD). The management server died last November and when I rebuilt it I was advised to go with Command View 10, which I did and all has been fine since.

I would now like to upgrade from XCS 09006000 to XCS 10100000 to support the new drives.

So the questions are:

Where do I get XCS 10100000 as I only have been able to find XCS 10001000 available for download?

and, for approval to do this I need to have a backout plan. Is there somewhere I could download the original XCS 09006000 to comply with this?.

And lastly, (I will read all the checklists and advisories), can anyone who has done this give any feedback on anything to watch out for. Is it generally trouble free?

Thanks,

Andrew.

1. XCS v10.10.00.00 is not available anymore publicly. Best suggestion is to go with v10.00.10.00

2. XCS v11.00.10.00 is in Controlled Release. This means that HP is selectively allowing customers access to it given certain situations. Since you are on such an old XCS, you are definitely not using the feature(s) that has/had an issue in XCS v10.10.00.00 so you may not be able to be part of the controlled release, but you can contact HP Support to find out.

3. If you contact HP Support, you can probably score an older version of XCS... and if you are under a support agreement... you may even get some help doing the upgrade.

Keep in mind that you are at a REALLY OLD Version... and may require you to upgrade 2 times. It might be better to jump to XCS v09.53.40.00... to prepare for v10 or v11. 600GB disks are supported on v09.53.40.00

Is this a single EVA environment?

Generally speaking it is trouble free. Since you are at such an old version, you will probably need to do an offline upgrade. (No I/O access from your servers)

I just took a look at the Compatibility Reference... you need to go to v09534000 anyway before going to v10.x. Also, it is definitely an offline upgrade.

Hello,

I'd also read the "Updating Product Software Guide" for the xcs. It may be so that you cannot downgrade back to 09006000.
