Is the following an appropriate array topology:

one VA7410
one DS2405

array controller 1 jbod 2 connected to ds
array controller 2 jbod 1 connected to ds

thanks.

Hi Michael,

No - I don't think so.
You'd need to do:

Fibre channel card 1 connected to DS2405.
Fibre channel card 2 connected to VA7410.
Or vice-versa.

You can't chain fibre channel JBODs to a single controller like you can in a SCSI fashion.
And of course, you have no fibre card redundancy in play. If either the card or the JBOD I/F goes down - the disks disappear.

For full-blown redundancy you'd need 4 fibre channel adapters with 2 each going to each JBOD.

HTH,
Jeff

Oh - one other thing that just struck me.
There are dual-port fibre channel cards out there.
In that case you could connect the VA to port A on the controller & the DS to port B on the same card. Perfectly acceptable.
And with just two of these cards you could get your redundancy. Just remember to hook the VA & DS to *both* cards. Don't hook both VA or DS I/Fs to both ports on the same card.

With these newer, smaller systems slot count must always be on your mind.

Rgds,
Jeff
