The files under /dev/vg01 were accidently deleted. I believe the /etc/lvmtab is corrupted as well since a vgchange -a n /dev/vg01 fails.

How can I restore /dev/vg01 ?

First, mv /etc/lvmtab to /etc/lvmtab.save
Next run vgscan.

You may want to run vgscan -p -v first to preview its actions. Man vgscan beforew you do any of this but almost certainly this will fix you.
