Thanks for your input. We were already leaning towards the FC60 and, in fact, had asked our vendors to configure it into their quotes. Your response has reaffirmed our decision to go with the FC60.

Best regards

Hi All,

Our company is considering the purchase of either a FC60 or FC10 array to replace an aging Clarion with 10 - 9 GB drives. We're looking at populating it with 8 - 36 Gb drives. Does anyone have any information regarding performance, throughput, etc... that would cause one to be a better choice than the other?

Thanks

The major difference between FC10 and FC60 is FC10 is JBOD (Just bunch of disk) enclosure and FC60 is disk array.

Below is what I found out.

The HP SureStore E Disk System FC10 (A5236A/AM) is
a 10-slot Fiber Channel JBOD Disk Enclosure that
features redundant Link Control Cards (LCC),
redundant power supplies and fan modules. The disk
modules are native Fibre Channel with 2 FC-AL ports
per disk. This allows the use of alternate paths
for high availability configurations.
Each LCC has 2 Fibre Channel connections that will
allow daisy-chaining of up to 10 enclosures per
Fibre Channel loop.

There is no deskside model.
Greater connectivity can be achieved by the use of
the Fibre Channel Hub (A3724A or A3308A).

The A5236A product is a 10-slot Fibre Channel JBOD Disk Enclosure that
features redundant FC Link Control Cards (LCC), redundant power supplies (2)
and fan modules (2). The disk modules are 10K rpm native Fibre Channel with
2 FC-AL ports per disk. This allows alternate paths for high availability
configurations.

Each LCC card has 2 FC-AL ports. This will allow daisy-chaining of up to
6 enclosures, for a total of 60 disks on a FC-AL loop.

FC60 Disk array comprised of a controller enclosure
which connects to separate disk enclosures. Up to six
disk enclosures can be attached to one array controller
enclosure. RAID 5, 0/1, and 1 are supported on HPUX
operating systems. RAID 5, 3, 0/1, 1 and 0 are supported
on NT.

Best regards,
