Hi, Eugeny?
This is Dang. Thank you for your help.

I am a Customer Engineer, as a HP employee.

Actually, I upgraded 5 Virtual Array controler to HP18 in customer sites.( 2ea va7400, 3ea va7100)

2ea va7400: HP17->HP18 (No problem, Successful)
3ea va7100: HP15->HP18 (2 of 3 sent those messages)

Needless to say, before upgrading HP18, accorging to the Service Note I removed 1.05 cvsdm and then I installed 1.06 cvsdm.

Next time, when I visit customer site, I will check the events in 'armdsp -e'. Thanks for your advice.

Anyway, I wonder those messages will be a serious problem in the future.
I am so sorry, this stupid question.

You can just tell me your own opinion.

Thanks.

Hello?

I upgraded two va7100 firmware from HP15 to HP18.

The first va7100's upgrade was successful.
Like below...
----------------------------------------------
Firmware revision before update is HP15
Performing firmware download on A6188A
Waiting up to 120 seconds for the device to begin processing the firmware.
Embedded processor progress 1%.
Embedded processor progress 1%.
Embedded processor progress 1%.
Embedded processor progress 1%.
Embedded processor progress 1%.
Embedded processor progress 1%.
Embedded processor progress 1%.
Embedded processor progress 1%.
Embedded processor progress 20%.
Embedded processor progress 40%.
Embedded processor progress 40%.
Embedded processor progress 40%.
Embedded processor progress 40%.
Embedded processor progress 60%.
Embedded processor progress 60%.
Embedded processor progress 60%.
Embedded processor progress 80%.
Firmware revision after update is HP18
Download of new firmware successful.
-----------------------------------------------

However, the other va7100 showed me below message.
-----------------------------------------------
Firmware revision before update is HP15
Performing firmware download on A6188A
Waiting up to 120 seconds for the device to begin processing the firmware.
Embedded processor progress 1%.
Embedded processor progress 1%.
Embedded processor progress 1%.
Embedded processor progress 1%.
Embedded processor progress 1%.
Embedded processor progress 1%.
Embedded processor progress 1%.
Embedded processor progress 1%.
Embedded processor progress 20%.
Embedded processor progress 40%.
Embedded processor progress 40%.
Embedded processor progress 40%.
Embedded processor progress 40%.
Embedded processor progress 60%.
Embedded processor progress 60%.
Embedded processor progress 60%.
Embedded processor progress 80%.
The device failed to come back to a ready state.
Device Exception:
Status : Array Status
Device is becoming ready.
-----------------------------------------------
After downloading, when I saw the 'armdsp' and 'vfpdsp', the controller revision was HP18 and the array's state was "Ready". After all upgrading procedure, the whole data in the va7100 was normal.

What does these message mean?
----------------------------------------------
The device failed to come back to a ready state.
Device Exception:
Status : Array Status
Device is becoming ready.
----------------------------------------------

I wonder what it means.

Thanks..
First of all, VA firmware should be upgraded by HP CE (customer engineer).
This message may mean that VA did not report back to firmware update utility that it became ready. This could be because of many reasons: switch/hub problems, bad cable, etc.
BTW, did you upgrade CommandView to the latest before downloading firmware?
You can check VA's event log 'armlog -e' to check which events it logged prior and after firmware upgrade
Eugeny
