Can i install SMART 2DH array controller on o custom made PC or it
just works on compaq servers?

Only designed for use on Compaq servers.

Even though it's designed for Compaq servers, I've put a Smart 2/DH into a normal PC and it worked just fine. The system I put it into was just an off the shelf motherboard (Abit LX). I've also put a 2/DH into other generic systems and had no problems.

The newer array controllers do need things that normal systems don't, like 64 bit or 66MHz PCI. But the 2/DH works fine in your basic 33MHz, 32 bit PCI bus.

If I recall, it may give an error on bootup about something not working, but in practice it ran just fine for years.

Im using a smart array 2/p in my deskpro and it works fine. The only problem with using a non proliant machine is that you wont be able to boot the smart start cd. To configure the array you need to have the adapter in a machine that has windows installed already, then run the ACU from within windows. I dont boot from the array on mine so this isnt a problem for me.
