Use RAID 0+1.

If you need to do a backup, use Oracle Recovery Manager (RMAN). You cannot simply simplex the disks while the database is running and expect to have a good backup copy, as some dirty data blocks will be in memory still and have not been checkpointed to disk, so you will have to recover your database to make it usable.

Steve

Hi All,

Does HP support Raid 0 on an FC60 and LVM mirroring.

Hardware striping on FC60 and software mirror.

Thanks
Joe

According to the User's Guide, the FC60 supports "RAID 1, 0/1, and 5". Why would you want to do that rather than uses 0/1?

Pete

Yes, I believe that you can software mirror with LVM between two FC60's which are in RAID/1 mode.

Regards,
John

Since HP10 firmware you're able to create RAID 0 LUNs (latest HP12). But please be aware that loss of one disk will cause data loss of whole LUN
Eugeny

Pete,

FC60 only supports 0/1 and raid5 on HP-UX. This is a database server and we need to split the mirror for our backup.

Joe

P.S.
I found out that this configuration will not support our needs.

Thanks everybody!
