topic LUN0 already defined??? in Disk Enclosures

Hello all - We just received shipment of a new L3000 server with an AutoRAID 12H disk array. Product ID on the array is C5447A.

I want to start creating the LUNS, but when I run the arraydsp command, it looks like LUN0 was already defined by someone?? Or maybe the array does this automatically? (see output below).

Question - Can I delete this LUN? Also, I would like to format the array, is this necessary or a wise idea?

Thanks a million!!

--- Disk space usage --------------------
Total physical = 312596 MB *
Allocated to LUNs = 2048 MB *
Used as Active Hot spare = 34732 MB *
Used by non-included disks = 0 MB *
Used for Redundancy = 52983 MB *
Unallocated (avail for LUNs) = 222833 MB *
-----------------------------------------

Vendor ID = HP
Product ID = C5447A
Array serial number = 00000037C4A7
-----------------------------------------

LUN 0:
Capacity (MB=2^20) = 2048 MB *
Maximum block addr = 4194304
Block length = 512
It doesn't matter whether you first delete LUN0 and format the array.
Actually you don't need to format the array but you can do that if you want.
It takes a few seconds to format the Array.
If I were in your shoes, I would delete LUN0 and create some LUNS.
LUN0 is not created automatically on AutoRAID.

Regards,

Tim,

It's normal when you receive a new 12H that you see a LUN 0. This is factory default to test if the 12H is working correctly (also a checkpoint for the CE on-site).
You can't really format a 12H before creating LUNS. When creating luns the 12H will format the disks in the autoraid and assign pieces of each disk to the lun.

Regards,

Mark

Thanks Mark,

I just deleted LUN0 and re-created at my desired size and everything worked fine.

Tim
