There should be no software required for this upgrade. Both versions use the same firmware.

I follow the instructions by HP's document, HP p/n C1156-90000 Edition 1 0696 on adding a second drive. When I check 'info' for the number of drives, it shows only one. The instructions mention downloading from(FTP 15.38.89.10) for the code. I have a problem using FTP at work due to our firewall.

Actually I believe what may need to be done is to 'reset factory defaults' from the front panel.

This is the operation that makes the robotics controller figure out how many drives are present. A simple power cycle doesn't force this operation.

Unfortunately, on a 40fx I believe it is one of the numbered configurations and I don't remember the number (it may be 13, but no guarantees).

I will research this and post an answer later.

OK, I found the required information:

You need to go into the config menu on the front panel, and select config 16. The display will display 'Save', you must now use the 'Next' or 'Prev' button to change the display to 'Clear' and then press 'Enter'. This will reset the defaults (pressing enter when the display displays 'Save' simply resaves the current settings, which does not force the library to re-learn drive configs).

Also make sure that your instructions described you one of the dip switches on top of the drive had to be changed for this model library - otherwise the drive will eject the cartridge at the wrong distance causing robotics failures.

Jan, follow instructions, jukebox can see second drive. Have new problem, I tried to eject a platter from drive 1, it does not eject enought for the picker to remove. Replaced drive, same problem. Drive 2 (new drive)works correctly.

The problem of the eject distance may be related to the dip switch settings I mentioned.

In a 40fx there is one dip switch (on top of each drive) that must be in the on position, all others must be off. Can you verify that both drives are configured correctly?

This dip switch changes the distance the drive will eject the drive, as the same drive is used both in the 40fx and the larger libraries, which use different robotics.

Jan, now that I'm able to use 2 drives, my 3rd party software still views the jukebox as a C1100fx, not a C1115fx. Is there a way to change the model name?

Art,

You should check with your software vendor if your software has trouble recognizing the second drive. All optical products will always report the inquiry response from the major family member (in this case the C1100F), and not the specific model you have configured. Any correctly written software should still recognize this as a 2-drive unit based on the element addressing response it can obtain from the unit.

While there have been cases where these values have been changed to reflect the model number that you would order this library configuration under (C1115F), this usually results in major support problems, as most software would not recognize this response, and is not officially supported that way.
