Hello Dale and Bobby,
drives: you will see these devices like floppy disk device: removable, but with much more capacity :-) So there's no new driver installation needed and you can format MO disks using disk admin, and copy files there.
But as soon as you have not external MO drive, but whole library, it will not be so easy to insert disk into drive (but possible from the front panel of library - read library user's manual). So to be able to control library robot called AutoChanger you need special backup software which will know everything about disks inside, and be able to change them if needed automatically.
But to be a winner and able to see drives and work with changer you need firstly connect library to the PC. Again, refer to manual. 80ex can be either SE or FWD, but 160ex has both connectors, you only need to move switch to needed position. Do not forget about termination when connecting: bus should be terminated at both its ends with correct terminators (SE or FWD).
You can download HP Library and Tape Tools form www.hp.com to test your library and update with latest firmware.
Good luck!

Any ideas of how I can talk to the library of the 80ex under 2000?

I have the same question...except I have a 160ex. So far, my research has been pointing me to a 3rd party software.
