Can you hook a SCSI Card/ 29160 with a External 68-pin Ultra160 SCSi (LVD), into a HP 9.1 Optical Drive with a 50-pin high density connector, and then from the Optical drive connect a Hp SureStore Optical Jukebox with a 68-pin hgih density connector?

Dear Sara,

No you can't. You will lose the upper byte of the 'wide' SCSI bus to the Optical Jukebox. If you put the Optical drive at the end of the bus then the high order byte will be unterminated. Use an old narrow single ended SCSI HBA for the optical drive. This will be easire to source cables for as your optical is probably low-density 'bail' type connection.

Hi Sara,

Correct on the "watch out for dropping upper eight bits".

You can get the hardware you need (cables, terminate upper, etc,) at www.sierratechnologies.com/

You should have somebody familiar with all of the items on the bus look to see what configuration they will resolve to (probably SE) and then figure out the max cable length.

If you use an OmniServe you can split the prime bus from the server into different buses for the different device needs.

Hi Sara,

I'm assuming that you're using a 220mx as the library?

Having the drive in there will force you to SE mode and your total cable distance will be limited to 3 meters.

Sara,

What model Jukebox are you trying to connect?

If its interface is Fast Wide Differential (FWD) SCSI, you will not be able to connect it to your LVD SCSI controller in any event, as LVD and FWD (HVD) SCSI are electrically incompatible.

The issues of the upper 8 bits and termination are also show-stoppers, with regard to connecting both devices on the bus, as the others indicated.
