The Hp writers have two formats for burning a CD. The first is a standard burn, which allows the cd to be used on any computer. The second is what HP reffers to a "MultiRead" This is an HP propritary burn mode. This is the mode that the HP-CDRW's use for burning CD-RW media. It is ONLY compatable with HP CDRW's! But it will work with a CD-R just as well, but it won't allow you to delete, and will not be read in a non HP CDRW drive. The "MultiRead" option allows you to append a cd like a hard drive, hence why they request you use CDRW media. You can use the "Normal" burn option and append or erase CDRW's on your HP-Writer.
Also it is important to note that HP-CDRW's are media Picky! They preffer "Gold" media over "Silver" and are speed awair. If you try to use a 4X media in a 8X drive you will end up with major burn errors. The Two Media Types I have had the best burns with are, Kodak and Memorex in "gold" and the ONLY "Silver" Media I can use is TDK. This could be for a varitey of reasons, and may not apply to everyone, but if it works, go with it! Also HP-CDRW's are top of the line units and require top of the line media to work effectivly. They are the most compatable across the board for being read by any and all CDR's, if you watch which format you are burning in. The only way to know for sure if you are burning in "Normal" mode or "MultiRead" is to user the HP-software. Some third party vendors software will not tell you that it is using "MultiRead" mode when you insert the CDRW Media.
Hope this Helps....

I burned a CD with RecordNow on Windows 2000 Professional, but when I put it in another machine that runs Windows 2000 Professional but doesn't have a CD burner it says "Please insert a disk into drive D:". The disk works fine on the computer that burned it.

How do I get the CD to work on the other machine?

P.S. This thread has been moved from Storage > General to Optical Jukeboxes & Drives. - Hp Forum Moderator

Sigurd,

I had the same problem with Windows 98 (second edition). I purchased Nero Burn CD and it works great. Aparently there is a software problem with Record Now. So, if you don't mind spending a little cash, I recommend getting another program besides Record Now.

~M@tt~
