topic 7550i locks up system using DirectCD in Optical Jukeboxes and Drives

My 7550i worked great for about 9 months until I started having problems backing up directories to CD-RW's. The system completely locks up about 3-5 minutes into the copy process from the hard drive to the CD-RW.

I've taken the following actions and still have the problem:

Upgraded my copy of DirectCD to ver 2.5d.

Uninstalled & reinstalled DirectCD.

Disabled the DMA checkbox for the CD-RW.

Booted Win95 using Safe Mode & deleted all "ghost drivers".

Updated my IDE bus mastering software to ver 3.56 on my Asus P5A-B.

Shut down every background program that was running except for DirectCD, systray, and Windows explorer.

Called HP tech support twice (they recommended a number of the things I tried). They tried to be helpful, but still no dice.

I get the following 2 errors when running the "CD-R/RW Diagnostics" writing test:

XCD Error: Error accessing the image file CDISO.ISO (111)

and

XCD Error: Toolkit or virtual CD error (104)

I get these errors even after formatting a brand new CD-RW. The drive self-tests all PASS.

I've seen others with comments about their 7200 series units having difficulties that were cleared up by cleaning the lens. I'll try that, but I was still curious if anyone else had the same problems w/ the 7550i.
