Problems Win2000 Server and CDWriter 8230e

Hello
During the installation of the cdwriter the add and remove hardware wizard hangs...
If the device is plugged in during startup of the machine it hangs before windows is loaded.
I'm using a Dell Latitude CP500GT.
A colleague has the same problem with the same machine and writer...
What do i have to do to burn a CD??

I have a similar problem with a Dell inspiron 3800 laptop with W2000 and the 8000e external USB burner. Windows won't boot with it plugged in and the system won't load the drivers correctly. Device Manager locks up, system hangs, etc. What a pain. This could be a problem with Dell's line of Laptops and some resource allocation with plug and play?

Try downloading the latest WIN2K driver from the following web page:

http://www.hp.com/cposupport/swindexes/hpcdwriter22108_swen.html

Are you certain this product is supported on WIN2K SERVER?

If you check the following web page:

you'll see no mention of WIN2K Server, Professional ONLY! I don't know if that means it will not work OR that HP will not support it. Probably the latter.

Thom, your problem is specifically fixed by upgrading to A11 BIOS. See the following Dell web page:

I'm thinking your problem is also related to a Dell BIOS upgrade but I cannot find a Latitude CP500GT anywhere on their website. If you post the correct model or the Service Tag, I can find out or go to www.dell.com and find it. Good luck!
