Cannot copy CD to CD

On two different computers (newly upgraded to WIN98SE), I get very similar behavior. I cannot copy CD to CD. The "Easy CD Creator" program performs a test on the source CDROM drive before it begins copying. This test fails.

When I run the CD-R/RW Diagnostics program, I cannot select a drive. The error message is:

"CD-R/RW Diagnostics cannot access the CD-R/RW drive. It is currently being used by CD-R/RW Diagnostics. Please close CD-R/RW Diagnostics and run CD-R/RW Diagnostics again."

I have an HP 7200i drive.

Anyone see this before?

AND power off your computer for a few minutes
before powering it back up.
You may also want to download software updates,
both for the diagnostics and the CD software.
Start from hp.com and follow the drivers link.
