Hey there folks,

just recently I started getting this error with my hp usb external cd writer (SCSi target error). It has made burning back ups impossible. I have looked on the net but some of the options I can't seem to find on windows XP. I really need some help.

Thx
Chris

You should check/upgrade your hardware firmware.

Find diagnostic tools and upgrades for your product on:

http://www.hp.com/go/windowsxp

but to be quite honest sounds like a windows problem...

Later,
Bill

Without additional information it is difficult to parse the problem into whether the HP USB CD-ROM drive is responding improperly to the host computer, the CD-ROM drive is having troubles writing (or reading), or if something else is going wrong.

If the thing worked at one time, and if nothing else has changed, i.e., type of CD-R media, software on your PC, etc., then it is possible that the CD-ROM drive itself is having problems and should be repaired or replaced.
