Need to know if TapeAlert supported on Surestore 5000 DAT8 and/or DAT24

I need to check out some TapeAlert software. Can anybody verify whether or not the surestore 5000, DAT8, or DAT24 supports TapeAlert? The downloadble PDF manual only mentions that they all come with TapeAlert software, but that certainly doesn't guarantee the FW supports it. I expect the DAT24 does, but the older models would be suspect in my eyes.

Dear David,

There is no support for TapeAlert in SureStore 5000 tape drives. TapeAlert is available on the HP SureStore DAT8 and DAT24 drives. TapeAlert is not available on the earlier DDS-2 drives (SureStore 6000).
Most backup applications check the TapeAlert flags on the drive (eg ARCServe2000, Veritas Backup Exec, Hp Omniback II and Tapeware.
