I am trying to restore data from tape, equipment, and software from v1.2 of Colorado Backup. (It was 1997 since I used last!)

But when try to install v1.2 softward on win XP computer, it says: "CBWSYS caused a General Protection Fault in modeule COLOBACK.DLL at 0003:2562"

it seems to freeze then. at another point is said problem linking with task manager.

XP only offers to simulate Windows back to win 95 -- is that my problem? any solutions? Is there way to download softward that will be compatible with win XP?

thanks much!

Your version of Colorado Backup is not compatible with Windows XP. Things have moved on in the 7 years since the release of Win95.

Which kind of Colorado drive do you have ?

cheers
John (Nash),

thanks for reply (though not good news!)

I have v1.2 Colorado software (worked with Win3.1). Does that answer question about which driver I have?

Can I download more recent drivers that work with XP (or W95 simulated) -- and work with Trakker 250?

Do I need buy later Colorado Backup equipment--and are they compatible with tapes used in Trakker 250? Would Trakker 350 work with XP/(W95 simulated)? (I could buy it on eBay for $10.)

Tried downloading what looked look an upgrade patch for my 250 from HP website, but it didn't work.

Thanks again for quick reply!

no,no, what DRIVE do you have ? It sounds like you have a trakker .. is that right ?

if you have then it is not going to work with XP at all. Any drive prior to the 5GB is going to struggle, I am afraid. You'd get more data on a CDR than on a trakker anyway .. !!

We also have problems with external colorado drives within XP.

John,

thanks for quick reply (didn't see it till now).

Yes, I have a trakker 250. Okay, given its drives won't work with XP, do you know _any_ kind of equipment that will read the data on storage tapes that I used (five years ago) with the Trakker 250?

If so, I could buy/rent whatever equipment necessary to convert the data to an XP-compatible disk; and then upload data to my XP computer.

Sound doable?

The tapes with data I want to upload to XP computer are labeled two ways:

1. 3M XIMAT format 120 MG, or
2. DC 2120 MINI DATA CARTRIDGE TAPE

I called tape manufacturer and they said HP is company to ask--so back to you!

thanks for hanging in with me! hope this question's resolution will help someone else....
1. 3M XIMAT format 120 MG, or

There is another consideration here, and that is what software your data was written with.
Usually, like only works with like.

That aside, you either need an XP compatible device that will read your tapes OR you need to be able to plug your trakker into an O/S that can work with it to recover the files.

The only devices that can/will be able to operate with XP are the 5Gb devices or onward and they do read the old tape standards:

just the reply I needed. I will look for a 5G storage devise; and report on results!

word processing data written with Word 3.1, so hoping XP can read it. in any case, a different problem.... (for microsoft to deal with if needed).
thanks again!

trakker uses QIC-80 format but the 5GB will only read that under 95/98 I just noticed !!!!!!!

Hmm ... you know anyone with a win98 system you can get your trakker onto directly for recovery and write onto CDR or similar ?
