Surestore dat24 does not recongnize media

Hello everyone,

I have HP Surestore Dat24 tape drive on an HP NetServer E800. I have Windows 2000 Server running on this machine. The tape drive reads "HP C1537A SCSI Sequential Device" in Device Manager and I have a Symbios Logic 896 SCSI adapter.

When I put new media (DDS3 12/24GB) in the drive and try to backup, I get "There is no unused media available with the selected type" when I try to backup using NTBACKUP.

I would appreciate any help on this issue. Thank you

Asem,
install HP LTT and check drive and tape http://www.hp.com/cposupport/information_storage/support_doc/lpg50128.html . Try NEW blank (just unpacked) HP DDS3 tape (C5708A). Please check drive's bottom dip switches to be: all on except switch 3 which is off. Try operating drive with HP recommended controller http://www.hp.com/cposupport/information_storage/support_doc/lpg50063.html

I installed the HP LTT and I get: LTT does not support this device.

What does that mean?

This device should be supported by LTT. Please try Adaptec 2940 recommended HBA, and if it will tell you that drive is not supported again then please call HP because I think that's something wrong with the drive, its firmware or inquiry string
