The firmware on the standalone tape drive you have is unlikely to be the loader type.

Standalone and loader firmware is incompatible and you cannot upgrade one to the other (I think you'll get an 'incompatible personality' error or similar)

Hi,

I have a defect DDS2 autoloader (C1553) and a DDS3 tape drive (1537 dat 24i). If i connect the DDS3 drive to the autoloader, the loader gives an error it cannot connect.

Is there any possible way to connect the DDS3 drive to the DDS2 autoloader and get it working?

Hi,

I've got the same problem.
The autoloader reports "Drive comm error".

As far as I know there are some specific models which should work.

I am going to ask a guy, who sells his drive at ebay which model he has used.
It might be the HP DAT 1554.

Greetings

John
