I've installaed the hplto.sys driver version: 1.0.2.0, I think is the last one.
I downloaded from here:
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/DriverDownload.jsp?locale=en_US&pnameOID=238673&taskId=135&prodTypeId=12169&prodSeriesId=238671〈=en&cc=us&swEnvOID=1005
Hardware compression

Hi!
I'm using a hp Storageworks Ultrium tape drive model 460 in a Windows 2003 Server.

I don't know how to activate the hardware compression. When I open the device manager and see the Ultrium properties they appear shadowed (I can't change properties) and the "Hardware compression" is set to false. So I'm backing up data using the double space.
Any solutions?

Thanks!
Did You install the HP-supplied drivers?
They are probably needed for being able to set this option.

Hardware compression is enabled by default on this drive. You can run out Libray and Tape Tools diagnostic to test compression.

http://h18006.www1.hp.com/products/storageworks/ltt/index.html

Since hardware compression is more effective than software compression it wouldn't be a good idea to disable it. Here is a link that will help you.

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?objectID=lpg50244

The problem continues: I can backup only up to 200 GB to the tape.
I go to the Device Manager and under "Tape Drives-> HP LTO Ultrium-2 Drive" I double click and in the property Hardware Compression is set to 0 and it is grayed, so I can't change to 1...

Where can I force the HW compression for this tape drive?

Tape Drive Location: Bus Number 0, Target ID 3, LUN 0
