Ultrim Device Problem on SUN m/c ( Solaris-8 )

Hi,

When we are trying to configure the ultrim device ( backup ) we are getting the following error:
"Device is unsupported, /dev/rmt/0m is not a bsd style device, use bsd
style device"

Any inputs are highly appreciated.

BTW, are you talking about media changer (m/c) or drive? What's device product number?

Sorry for the late contribution - hope it helps.

You don't say what backup application you're using, but I'd guess you need to use the Berkeley style no-rewind device file. Try /dev/rmt/0cbn instead.

0 = first tape device
c = do h/w compression
b = Berkeley (bsd) style operation
n = don't rewind the tape on close
